In this the last match of our Senior campaign we needed to win to stay up senior. In what was a terrific effort by the players they were denied what would have been a famous win by a late pointed free in the 6th minute of injury time. Effin were down by 4 points at the start of injury time but two pointed frees either side of a Darren Sheehy goal looked as though we had salvaged a win from certain defeat. However, lady luck was not on our side as Murroe/Boher were granted a last second reprieve by the referee in awarding a free from which they got the equalising point.

Effin defeated in County Cup semi final: http://effin-gaa.com/effin-defeated-in-county-cup-semi-final/ http://effin-gaa.com/effin-defeated-in-county-cup-semi-final/#respond Sat, 14 Sep 2013 19:38:55 +0000 http://effin-gaa.com/?p=230 Effin were defeated by Granagh Ballingarry in the Co Cup semi final played earlier this evening in Kilmallock. G/B made the better start and were quickly up by 6 pts before Effin found their rhythm and reduced the deficit to 2 points. Unfortunately the concession of 2 soft goals in the minute before half time saw Effin go in 8 points down.

As such it was important to make a good beginning to the second half but again G/B struck early with a quick goal and a point to surge 12 points clear. Effin now launched a spirited fightback and pulled back a goal and several points and had reduced to margin down to 4 points with 10 minutes to go. Alas G/B pulled clear with the final 2 points to win on a final score of Effin 1-15 Granagh Ballingarry 4-12.

That concludes our campaign for 2013. Thanks to all players and management for their efforts throughout the season and congratulations on the retention of our senior status.
